I've been following the story in Iran (primarily via Andrew Sullivan and HuffPo) ever since Sunday night. My brain is melting. I only know one person IRL who I can be all "HOLY SHIT, DUDE" about it with, but even then I'm only really as articulate as "HOLY SHIT, DUDE."
It's all just very enthralling and scary and inspiring and I don't even know.
I mean, all day I was organizing multiple series of numbers to enter into my work's database and lamenting how cloudy it was again, and meanwhile on the other side of the planet there are kids younger than me marching and fighting and dying because they really believed their votes would lead to a change.
And I can't even get my ass on a treadmill. |

Perusing fandomsecrets got me curious about the portrayal of America in Hetalia, so I decided to look for it on YouTube.
And now I can't stop watching it.
This is probably largely due to the fact that I'm a giant historyfail.
Also, why does France look like a certain pixelated serial killer with mommy issues? |

| WE HAVE CLAIMED OUR HOVEL |
[Jun. 7th, 2009 at 10:28 am] |
We moved in yesterday, and WOW we have a lot of stuff. And yet who know two lives could fit in a 14-foot U-Haul? Thankfully my roommate had like six people to help us, as I had just my dad. We ordered pizza for everyone as a thank you but I'm definitely making cookies for people given how exhausting this was.
Despite how much is still unpacked, I have a friend coming over today to visit, and he will accompany us on our shopping. I'll also have him take me home to grab my dad's SUV and I might as well get my desktop too, seeing as when I turned on this laptop last night it wouldn't let me type anything to log on or move the mouse, and when I had to take out the battery to restart it, it came back on all "o hay we gotta do a disc check please hold." WHAT A GOOD SIGN, but it seems okay now, and luckily I backed up my stuff on my external drive.
There are just a few problems. The air conditioner in my room failed after having it on for two minutes. One of the cabinets is loose. The tub spout keeps dripping. The outlet next to the cable line doesn't work. All things I shall bring up to them tomorrow.
I've finally managed to leech internet from an unsecure connection, but we should have our very own on Wednesday. Just like our very own bedrooms and very own bathroom and very own kitchen and very own living room and our very own staircase.
So....
Yeah.

| Time for GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS |
[Jun. 5th, 2009 at 05:52 pm] |
GOOD NEWS
We gots da keys to our apartment. :D And we went inside and ran around and turned the lights on and off JUST BECAUSE WE COULD and the apartment management left us a present of water bottles and candy and it was fun.
BAD NEWS
My car needs a new transmission pump and it'll cost me $1500 and WHY DO YOU HATE ME CAR I LOVE YOU I ALWAYS LOVED YOU BUT YOU DO THESE THINGS TO ME oh god I'm glad I had that crazily well-paid temp job and was able to save all that money because I do not know what I would do if I didn't have it. =\ I can't have my car back until Tuesday since it's a big job. Luckily my parents are going on a ~*two-week Alaskan cruise*~ on Sunday and Dad says I can borrow his SUV in the meantime. (I'd rather borrow Mom's sedan...) |

My friend and I pick up the keys to our apartment on Friday, and we move in on Saturday.
I AM EXCITED.
I never realized how many books I have until I had to pack them up. (So I bought a new bookcase at Ikea.) Pretty much everything but my clothes has been packed for the past couple days, though. I need to go get a couple more storage bins for those tomorrow, and then I think that'll do.
On Friday though, my dad and I have to take my car to get the transmission looked at, even after Firestone fixed an exhaust leak and broken tail lights and some other things. I can afford all this shit at the moment, but all the money I've saved seems like it's going to go pretty quick. :( I'm not sure what I'm going to do if my car conks out completely, but we'll cross that bridge when we have to push my car across it.
For now I will just deal with it because this time next week I will be out of here. :P |

| Well, I'm 2 for 3 in TV dramas. |
[May. 18th, 2009 at 08:16 pm] |
:( I'll miss you Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Well, I think I'll mostly miss John Henry.
Honestly, if it was a choice between Terminator and Dollhouse, I think I'd rather have stuck with SCC.
But of course I'll stick with Heroes no matter what BECAUSE I'M MASOCHISTIC LIKE THAT. All eyes on you next season, Bryan Fuller... If you could resurrect Mylar while you're at it, it'd be great. |

I was supposed to see Star Trek, but short story shorter, we're going tomorrow.
Supposed to have sushi, but shorter story even shorter, wound up having homemade cheesesteaks with my parents.
Also, my friend and I picked an apartment; we decided to go with the nicer area. We are two young ladies all alone, after all. Plus we think we can keep down utility costs. Hopefully when they call us in a week or two there will be an opening for sooner rather than later. My parents want me home in June to keep an eye on the house while they're on an Alaskan cruise, but I'm tired of being here. ~_~ And I shouldn't have to babysit my 19-year-old sister and 27-year-old brother.
Of course, now that Sue and I put down a deposit, my dad tells me he wants me to stay home. LOL Well, he and Mom are of differing minds on that, let me tell you.
Also, also... I'm reconsidering going to Otakon this year. I mean, I know I have the money now, so shouldn't I go now instead of next year? Especially considering how ridiculous hotel prices are-- I can afford a splurge. |

| X-Men Origins: Wolverine |
[May. 2nd, 2009 at 09:51 am] |
Apparently the Wolverine movie has multiple after-credits endings.
And apparently my friends and I got the LAMEST ONE. Thanks fer nothing, ya movie jerks.
It's an incredibly cheesy, fun movie, btw. Not great enough to see it multiple times to find all these stupid endings, but fun. |

| Okay, I think we're done. |
[Apr. 28th, 2009 at 09:16 pm] |
My mom flipped to the weather channel to make sure the heat will lay off us tomorrow.
And the anchors were reading people's comments about the weather via Twitter.
I just... don't know.
And here's some more thoughts on Heroes, starting with this excerpt from CBR's Behind the Eclipse for the finale:
Lora has a question about Sylaire, or would it be Clalar?
“I am very excited to see the interaction between Sylar and Claire, will this story arc continue into next season or will it be a one episode thing?”
It will not go away. That was kind of Sylar’s point. Lovers or not, these two are certainly star-crossed.
... I hate you so much right now, Heroes writers.
Excuse me while I gag. |

( Pretty good so far, but... )
Edit: I don't even know if it was even pretty good anymore. It had its moments, but...
I'm basically where I was at the end of Volume 3: "Okay, well, after the break it should pick up!"
Oh please oh please give Mohinder SOMETHING TO DO. |

| UGH |
[Apr. 24th, 2009 at 11:07 pm] |
NOTE TO SELF:
When Dad asks if you want to get dinner from the KFC/Taco Bell with him and Mom...
... and that voice in your head says, "Um, that's probably not a good idea..."
LISTEN TO THE VOICE.
The grease. It's shellacked my insides.
Also, I want to write fanfic. Not sure which one to work on... or for what fandom, for that matter.
Also ALSO: Going to start looking at apartments in a week. :) |

I mades another youtube video.
Short and sweet and under the cut.
( I love Mohinder, really. )
I'm going to watch Volume 2 again. I think after Volume 3 I'll be MUCH more charitable towards it. I have high hopes for the end of this volume, though... |

Watching Heroes Season 1 is mostly awesome, but kind've a bummer.
Season 1 is so fucking EPIC, and the current season, despite how much better the show's gotten, is so decidedly NOT. |

It's going to be on PS2 and PSP too!
It's amazing how much more open you are to a game when you won't have to buy an entire new game system to play it. |
